How To Obtain A Tourist Visa For Australia, sydney opera house
If you’ve heard that Australia has very strict laws concerning tourist visas, you’ve heard right. Australia severely restricts entrance to foreigners with a criminal record, although these can still get a visa if they follow certain procedures that require a comprehensive character check.

Let’s have a look at what you need to do if you want to travel to Australia but have one or several offenses on your record.

How To Obtain A Tourist Visa For Australia Even If You Have A Criminal Record

What sort of visa do you need if you have a criminal record?
Tourists coming to Australia with a clean record can apply for a visa online. There are two types available, both of them free. If you want to apply personally, you can ask for an eVisitor visa, which can be obtained through the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

If you want to save yourself the hassle, you can opt for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) visa, which can be obtained on your behalf by your travel agency or airline carrier. You will have to pay a $20 fee for this service.

People with a criminal record are required to apply for a full visa through the Home Affairs office. Each case will be reviewed manually by an immigration officer.

What types of offenses do you need to declare when applying for an Australian visa?
A visitor to Australia is required to disclose any type of conviction on their criminal record, no matter how minor the offense might seem. Even an old drunk-driving conviction or any other traffic offense has to be disclosed when applying for a visa. This applies to both spent and unspent convictions if the system in your country makes such a distinction between old and recent convictions.

What does a substantial criminal record mean?
Australian law is very clear on that. If you have one or more convictions for which you were sentenced to a total of 12 months or more in jail, even suspended, then you have a substantial criminal record as far as the Australian immigration service is concerned.

This does not mean that you cannot apply for a visa or that you will be denied one, but you will have to prove to the immigration officer in charge of your case that you are not a threat to Australian society.

You will be required to provide a background check listing your convictions, but the real test is the character check you will have to submit to.

When obtaining a criminal record check for traveling to Australia, the correct channel to apply is the Australian Federal Police (AFP). For a criminal record check for standard employment purposes, you can go through online agencies like Australian National Character Check (ANCC) which tend to be a bit more efficient to get results faster, however, these agencies cannot be used for the purpose of your entry in Australia as immigration checks can only be obtained through the AFP.

How long does it take to get a visa?
Since people with a criminal record will need to undergo a thorough check, the whole process can take anywhere between three to 12 months. If you have any sort of convictions to declare, make sure to apply for a visa well in advance of your intended trip. Also, keep in mind that if your application is denied there is no way to appeal that decision.

On the other hand, you can reapply at a later date, unless the case officer that reviews your case puts an exclusion notification on your file. Such instances are, however, rare and only occur with serious convictions, such as drug trafficking, people trafficking, sexual abuse, or terrorism.

Hopefully, you won't have any trouble getting into this beautiful country whether you have a minor offense or not. Either way I trust this article will help you in your venture. If you have any other Australia visa tips we should know about leave them in the comments!

New Zealand is a real bucket list destination for experienced travelers, adventure seekers, and families alike.  The country is located just 1000 miles south-east of Australia and consists of 2 main islands; North and South.  There are also several small islands but the majority of visitors focus on the 2 main islands which offer a car ferry to get between the two.

One of the things that keep people from traveling out to the South Pacific is the travel itself. From most areas of the USA it is quite a long trip and when thinking of doing long-term travel the idea of getting all your belongings there can seem daunting. But if you ship some of your belongings ahead of time with something like Shiply and keep an eye out for a good deal (I swear even to New Zealand there are some great deals every now and then) then you can minimize the anxieties around such a big trip.

New Zealand is a beautiful country ripe with opportunities to explore, relax, and adventure.  A trip to either island is well worth the time, money, and effort it takes to get there. It offers nearly every landscape you can think of offering the traveler or adventurer too many activities to pick between. A good problem to have in our opinion. Many people we have spoken to even say it is the best spot in the world to do an extended road trip. With so many opportunities to explore we thought we'd break it down for you into 5 of the most amazing adventures you can have while there.

Jet Boating on North or South islands
We all first heard about jet boating from a friend that had experienced it in New Zealand.  It sounded so amazing that we decided to try it for ourselves while in Sydney.  It was great fun but nowhere near as exciting in Sydney Harbor as it sounds to be as you zip down Shotover River in Queenstown.

The boats were originally created to maneuver through the shallow windy rivers on the south island but since they maneuver easily and can move at high speeds it was discovered early on what fun and excitement this could bring to tourism. As someone who has experienced this adventure, I can assure you it is well worth the cost.

Best Ice Cream in the World
One of the coolest things to do while visiting New Zealand is to explore the North Island. Starting off in Auckland there is no shortage of death-defying adventures that can be had. Everything from bungee jumping to skydiving to swimming with sharks and so much more can be achieved while visiting this beautiful area of the country.
One of the most unique experiences in New Zealand is a sweet one. Auckland is home to one of the most ingenious and fascinating spot in the world to eat and enjoy ice cream; The legendary Giapo Ice cream. Which is quoted as having the best ice cream in the world.

This gem is situated on Gore Street, downtown Auckland in the Britomart precinct, and it is ideal if you are going for a walk in the city or a quick tour of Auckland. Giapo gets quite busy but trust me their ice cream deserves all the attention.

While their flavors are not just vanilla and chocolate, what these guys have done to ice cream is unprecedented. Ice cream here is not like you would have in your local gelato ice cream shop with some creative flavors. Here it is served in Yorkshire pudding, Traditional Maori bread, Roti, it is served as an accessory, wherein example your finger nests perfectly inside a cone, just like a finger puppet, these are the wereable cones. Giapo is the home of the selfie cone and the colossal squids.
Their service, is kind and attentive as you would expect in a Michelin restaurant at first you are welcomed by one of their kind hostesses, then you are offered a tasting degustation where the host guides you through the flavors, then you are wowed by the masterpieces that come to you.

Anything you know about ice cream or gelato gets a new meaning at Giapo and we get it!

Giapo is a bit like an art museum, with surreal sculpture like cones and the most incredible ice creams creations ever. If there is only one thing you can do in Auckland, this is the one.

What a cool way to enjoy ice cream! Sure to please adults and children.

Heli-biking, heli-fishing, heli-hiking
I don't know about you but for me, I really love the adventure of hiking and biking but truth be told I often wish that the uphill component simply didn't exist and I could enjoy the peak of the ride/hike and then enjoy the thrill and rush of the downhill. Well in New Zealand there is no end to the types of Heli sports you can do. Basically, a helicopter flies you up to a summit and you can enjoy the peak and then the rush down. For some of the adventures, you simply heli up and enjoy then heli back down. Takes away the hard work but for many of us, that's just perfect.

Obviously, you can also enjoy any number of regular hiking and biking as well as countless lakes streams and rivers where you can fish to your heart's content but add the heli component and the adventure and thrill-seeking go up a few notches!

Caving in Waitomo

Caving of any sort always inspires us. You feel a sense of times past and enjoy the heart-racing excitement at the same time. Caving in New Zealand is world class and comes with many many options.

In Waitomo caves, you can hike or raft through. When you opt for the black water rafting you actually crawl and float through the caves on a personal tube. Another highlight of these caves is the unique glow worm attraction where it appears to show you a twinkling night sky deep inside. For the hardcore adventurers, you can even abseil or zip line through the caves. Something for everyone I suppose.

Explore Milford Sound
No New Zealand list of any kind can be complete without mentioning this stunning area of the country. As seen in the photo at the top of the article this beautiful sound is home to one of the most photographed locations on the planet.

Aside from taking stunning photographs you can cruise around the lake, hike, rent a kayak, go fishing, and even scuba dive. There is also an observatory where you can learn about what is going on under the water in the sound without having to get scuba certified!

No matter what you choose to do there is no doubt it will be a stunning adventure.

There you have it, our list of the top 5 amazing adventures to have in New Zealand! Get out there and get exploring. Let us know below in the comments if you have any other must do adventures in New Zealand!

We all know that life with kids is the most fabulous experience that you can imagine, but it is also one of the most strenuous. As you may now understand, fun-filled family holidays are very important so that you can make memories to last forever. Let us look at a list of the top five fun-filled holiday ideas that your kids will go crazy for.

1. Argentina
A Visit to Argentina is like none other; and if you are bilingual and have an affinity for intriguing urban culture and the beauty of nature, this is the country to go.

The Beagle Channel Tour is ideal for your kids to visit sea lions and Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse.

Your kids will develop a love for travel, planes, boats, and trains on things like the boat ride to Colonia, Uruguay that provides delightful activities for both you and the kids. And the Tren del Fin del Mundo, Ushuaia, otherwise known as the End of the World Train, is also worth having a ride on.

A tour of the Tierra del Fuego national park by bus is divine. The bus normally tours multiple localities, and you may visit different sites before hopping back onto the bus. Either way, a bus tour can be an excellent way to see the country

If you're looking for an authentic Argentinian lunch try El Charco while in Colonia. And if you need a ride, a golf cart can be rented to move around town and visit the colonial sites in style. SOmething the kids would no doubt enjoy

2. Mallorca

If your kids love to spend their holidays splashing about, then Mallorca is the perfect destination. There are rides and slides at Western Water Park, Aqualand, and Hidropark. And you can rent a villa in Mallorca with a pool so you and your kids can enjoy playing games whilst keeping cool.

Check out the natural parks at Cala Mondrago and PenĂnsula de Llevant where you will find mysterious coves, enticing playgrounds and stone towers from an era of long ago.

Talking of long ago, walking along the Medieval Walls of AlcĂşdia is great fun for your kids.

The Castell de Bellver offers a superb view of the Badia de Palma, woodsy scented pine, and an intriguing museum.

The Santuari de Sant Salvador monastery offers exploratory opportunities along its ramparts and one of the most scenic panoramic views above ArtĂ .

Mallorca is not without silky smooth sandy beaches and shallow blue-green waters at the Badia d'AlcĂşdia.

Have a boat ride along the way from the wondrous Blue Cave with ethereal turquoise waters to the Illa de Cabrera national park.

3. South Africa
There is a wide array of things for kids to do on a holiday to South Africa. Cape Town offers a Pirate-themed Adventure Mini-Golf Course which is open every day so that the entire family may enjoy. Don your most authentic pirate garb and enjoy exploring the 18 pirate-themed holes.

Visit African penguins at Boulder’s Beach Penguin Sanctuary. Who knew there were penguins in Africa? Your kids will have magical stories of this place. It can get a bit windy at times so be prepared for that but you don't want to miss out on this incredible sanctuary.

Bon-Af Berry Farm offers a delightful day of berry picking. Your whole family can join a guided tour of the farm and are given special containers to place the rewards that you have reaped. You pick juicy berries and have tea and other refreshments on the farm. There is also a tiny museum that displays artifacts from as far back as 1889.

Fishing at Magoebaskloof Getaway is another fun activity.  You can enjoy catching and releasing catfish, bass, trout, and carp in the two scenic dams. You may fish at no cost unless you wish to keep your catch.

4. The Maldives
If you think that The Maldives is a honeymoon destination, think again. There are a number of child-friendly resorts like the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa and Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef to name a couple.

Another possibility is renting a hut on the beach so you can privately enjoy the gorgeous beaches with your family. And if you want to relax you can sit on your porch and watch the kids splash around the crystal clear shallow water.

Another great activity for kids is to take surfing for a spin. There are tons of ways to get started surfing in some of the most beautiful waters in the world.

Crab racing is another one of those activities that can occupy kids for hours. They can collect hermit crabs (ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters in length), examine them and then put them to race on the sand.

5. Cape Tribulation, Australia
There are Great Barrier Reef day tours from Cape Tribulation that both you and your kids would love. Some tours actually offer crèche options. This means that there is always someone available to look after your children if you want to explore a little farther.

There is a lot of flora and fauna to be seen at Cape Tribulation. Stroller access can be limited so you will have to be prepared to carry younger children, but the reward is more than worth it. Your kids will love exploring the fascinating rainforest. A more extreme option if you have older kids would be to take a night tour of the forest.

The Daintree Entomological Museum houses a large collection of live insects, including butterflies and various jungle insects. It also makes a great place for a family picnic.

Of course, there is the attraction of smooth sands and unbelievably clear waters that no one can say no to. This is perfect for spending the day with your children building sand castles, scavenging, searching for seashells and having loads of fun!

Australia -- home to some of the most beautiful beaches, lush rain forests, exquisite dining, chic fashion, adorable kangaroos and koalas, and so much more. Australia is also known for being cheeky and offbeat. While the chic cities, water adventure sports, and gastronomical delights are enough reasons to visit, you're going to want to visit the quirkier side of Oz too. You're sure to have a trip and here's where to start.

Sail a Beer Can Boat at Darwin

Video by associated press

What is a beach party without a few six packs? At the Darwin Beer Can Regatta, you're going to need a bit more than a few to participate.

How the lads figured "let's tie in some beer cans together and make a boat with 'em", we'll never know. Perhaps one too many lagers in the beach would inspire it. What started as a group of mates enjoying beers by the beach, playing chicken in the water, and having wet T-shirt competitions, has transformed into an all out family affair. Imagine one blazing afternoon at Mindil Beach, when Darwinians and tourists can enjoy a full day of bluesy soul singers, sandcastle making, thong throwing competitions, and of course - the Beer Can Regatta.

Some have the raft or boat making down into a science so to make things interesting, ensure fairness and safety, they made a few rules for the regatta. "The ten CAN-mendments -- if you will:

1. Thou shalt enter the event in the right spirit.
2. Thou shalt build the craft of cans.
3. The craft shall float by cans alone.
4. Thou shalt not drown.
5. Thou shalt not take the name of the craft in vain: any craft bearing signs or lettering that may be offensive will be barred.
6. Thou shalt not drift from the straight and narrow and end up at Mandorah.
7. Thou shalt not protest too much.
8. Thou shall honor thy Committee.
9. Thou shalt not commit adultery – nothing really to do with the Regatta, but it gives them an "air of responsibility and respect".
10. Thou shalt go back and read the first can-mandment again."

Jump Off A Building In Southbank

Adrenaline junkie? We have just the thing for you. Whether you think bungee jumping is already passé, don't have the time to go further than the city for your adrenalin fix, you just want to try out a possible place to bring your partner, rap jumping or the Aussie Rappel is a definite must-try.

You're not just rappelling down a building -- you'd quite literally run 7 stories down the side of a building face-first. Despite the thrill-seeking high you'll get from rap jumping, your safety is their
number 1 priority and you have full control over the speed of descent. They take pride in providing adrenaline with 100% safety record since 1989. With highly trained instructors always on board, you'll get the best experience and utmost safety when you rap jump.

Have a head for heights at the Eureka Skydeck

Video by CityDiscovery

Smack bang in the heart of Southbank is the impressive Eureka Tower. Its Skydeck, 297 meters above Melbourne's city streets, has an observation deck that gives you the most stunning panoramic views of the city. And with Melbourne's ever-changing weather, the sky colors constantly change, clouds thin and thicken, and no two days are ever the same at the Skydeck.

While the views are reason enough to visit Eureka, that's not quite quirky enough to make this list. So what else does the Eureka Skydeck offer?

You're already a little shy of 300 meters above ground so Eureka takes your experience of the heights to a whole new level. See Melbourne in the most thrilling way with Eureka's Edge Experience where you get a full view of the city through a glass cube that's projected outside of the building. Yes, you read that right, you'd be suspended midair from the 88th floor with glass floors, windows, ceiling -- you'd see through it all. Whether you're in it to get a rush of adrenaline, conquer your fear of heights, or pop down on one knee to ask the big question, you're sure to have an unforgettable experience at the Eureka Skydeck.

You have tons to do in Oz and if you don't drive around, you're going to spend too much on taxi rides or too much time waiting for public transport. The make the most out of your Aussie holiday and visit as many fancy, exciting, and even offbeat places around, make sure rent a car for your trip. You'll save up on time, money, and get to and from at your own pace and time. Happy Travels!

Let’s face it: long haul flights can be long and boring. However, they are way less expensive than direct flights, plus you get to see different airports, too! You just have to know what to do, and how to maximize your time during a long haul flight. Here, we list the amenities you can enjoy if your next layover is Brisbane Airport:

1. A different type of charging station. Ran out of battery because of your long flight? Well, you can now charge that at the airport, but first, you have to pedal! Yes, you heard that right. A recent installment at Brisbane Airport is the amazing Charge Bike - where you can both charge your phone and be fit and healthy. Go ahead and exercise your legs after sitting down for a very long time!

2. Go on a mini food binge. Go on and indulge on some food after pedaling for hours on end! Woolworths, McDonalds, and vending machines are all open 24 hours, so you would not have to worry about going hungry.

3. Relax on a massage chair. After getting your fix, head on to one of the 8 massage chairs that can be found at the International Terminal, Domestic Terminal, and Skygate area. For only $2.00 for the first four minutes and an additional $1 per minute, you will feel recharged and relaxed in no time!

4. Fill out your information details through your Digital Departure Card. Thanks to the students of the Queensland University Technology, filling out information is now easier with the Digital Departure Card. All you have to do is scan a QR code in one of the kiosks, and it’ll give you a complete card so you can move quickly through customs. Technology is pretty amazing, isn’t it?

5. Make Use of the Free WiFi and Internet. Ah, good old internet. I’m sure you are pretty thrilled to hear this, as the internet is a pretty awesome invention. You can do whatever you please: watch your favorite series on Netflix, connect to friends and family through the different social media platforms, or even watch tutorials on YouTube. The best thing about it too is that it’s free!

6. Make use of airport parking. This tip might not be for you but if you have friends in the country and they’re planning on traveling, you can advise them to drive their cars to the airport and just park their car at Brisbane Airport. It’s cheaper, safer, and less time consuming than other modes of transportation!

7. Sleep or rest at the Pay-per- use lounges. Whether you’re flying in business, first, or economy class, you can go ahead and use their pay-per- use lounges. This is especially useful for those who are looking for a place to sleep just before their connecting flights. I find it can really help with jet lag. Just pay a minimal amount, and you are good to go!

Now, you never have to get bored in Brisbane during your long haul flights. Enjoy and have a good one!

When you travel around the world with your family you’ll find yourself using all kinds of transport. Sometimes it’s a hire car, sometimes a camper, often it’s bus or train travel. Occasionally it’s a trusty horse or camel and every so often some kind soul will even loan you their own car for you to zip around town in!

Having such variety makes every new transport experience an adventure. The photographs you take of the family riding camels around the pyramids of Egypt will document a transport adventure that is talked about for years to come. Especially if any member of the family is scared!

You’ll remember our post about the great camper we had in Australia. We found it a lot easier to drive than we ever expected and can’t wait to try one out again. We weren’t too sure we were going to be able to manage it but it turned out to be really basic even for those with no experience.

We also tried a jetboat to race around Sydney Harbour – not technically a form of transport but a high-speed adrenaline rush that resulted in lots of squealing! See, I told you the photos are priceless when any member of the family is mildly apprehensive and terrified!

We’ve enjoyed the bamboo railway in Cambodia and ferry rides in Thailand. As well as using a basic hire car to venture out on our ill-fated visa run from Malaysia.

Even in the US there are so many options for travel.  One does not need a car of their own.  In fact, I think there are many, many benefits to ditching the car and jumping on board a train or bus.  Imagine being able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery.  No GPS checks, no bathroom breaks needed, and with kids, there is no doubt in my mind that train travel with its ability to get up and walk around is the absolute best way to travel!

With the Internet and all it's various search capabilities, it is easier than ever to find great deals. If you want to search tickets from the east coast all the way to the west you can easily research, purchase tickets, and be on your way in no time!  You can search for bus or train travel anywhere in the country at the click of a button!  Man, I wish this was available when we did our massive road trip back in 2006.

What different ways have you traveled around the US or the world?  Tell us about it in the comments below!

When you visit Sydney there are the ultimate bucket list destinations that are an essential part of any Australian holiday. When you have children, of course, this list is tailored to meet their needs but still includes the iconic Opera House, Bondi Beach, and more.

You will likely make a stop to Taronga Zoo and take in, not only to see some amazing animals, but also to enjoy some spectacular views. The view from the giraffe enclosure showcases some prime real estate of the Sydney Harbour. The aquarium and wild life park will also be on your list, as well as must stops in the heart of the CBD, the rocks area which is full of lively history, the Queen Victoria Building and the Sydney Tower as well.

However, after all these days spent taking in the sights you may be in some serious need for some
adult activities. Good parenting 101 places emphasis on balance, to find something for the kids to do while you are enjoying yourself as well is, as the kids might say, even-steven.

Here are three things to do in Sydney that will give you that family harmony allowing you to maintain that level of fun the kid’s desire while also providing you with some relaxing outlets, in essence as way to find the perfect family holiday balance in Sydney.

Darling Harbour
Darling Harbour is one of the top sights to see in Sydney. A Giant playground for both adults and children alike, a trip to Darling Harbour will leave you wanting for nothing. There is a constant
rotation of events on in Darling Harbour from Dragon Boat Races during Chinese New Year in February to the Yule Festival in July and in between you can find a number of cultural events taking place that promises and also delivers great cuisine, live music and cultural activities. Beyond the planned events that occur in the Harbour, there are a number of amazing restaurants, bars and cafes. However, it is the Darling Quarter Kids Playground that truly takes the cake. Complete with miniature water park, balance ropes, giant steel slides and a flying fox, this playground will keep the children entertained for hours; it is nearly impossible to tear them away from all the attractions.

The best part about this park would be its prime location, where adjacent lies great eateries and bars for the adults to enjoy. The park is close enough for you to keep a close eye on the kids while also being able to enjoy a cold beer or even a gourmet hot chocolate or coffee from Guylians.

While in the area be sure to check out the botanical gardens as a great picnic spot with loads of pen green space for the kids to run around not to mention some of the best views of the opera house that we found.

Sydney Harbour from the Water
The best views of Sydney can be taken from the water. There are many boating options available to you while you are on holiday or even just looking for a weekend outing. However, to keep the
children entertained while out on the water can be another matter. What is sure to spark their interest and be a big hit however, is a ride on a tall ship through Sydney Harbour. Attack of the Pirates is an adventure filled, thrilling show all on board Sydney’s own pirate tall ship. There will be music, cannons and sword fights all while you are taking in some breathtaking views of the Opera House, Circular Quay and Sydney’s North Shore. They have a bar on board serving a number of refreshments including beer and wine. All staff are fully trained in responsible service of alcohol to
ensure everyone on board stays on board and has some good family fun.

While tickets for the show are a bit pricey, $79.90 for adult and $59.90 for child, you can combine your pirate adventure with an all-day unlimited rides pass ticket to Luna Park for only $10.00 more per person. The kids will definitely be thanking you after a trip to this amusement park which has graced Sydney’s shoreline since 1935.

Child Friendly Pubs
At the end of the long day sightseeing sometimes all you want to do is park it in a pub and enjoy the
rest of your evening with a glass of wine or cold beer, some good eats too. When you have children
however, this luxury doesn’t always come around or isn’t always as easy as you would like it to be. Luckily Sydney has several child friendly pubs scattered all over the city; some of them may even
make you want to be a kid again. Following RSA guidelines to ensure your evening is everything you
expect it to be, these premises allow children to be on site until 10:00 pm but must always be supervised by a responsible adult.

The Australian Brewery and Hotel is one pub that seems to almost cater to children more than they
do adults, but let’s not forget their happiness is the key to our peace and quiet. This brewery is complete with a separate family dining space to give the families some time away from the rest of
the crowd at the pub and two big play rooms that can be viewed from your table. There is a play
room for the younger children with soft mats and a tv as well as a play room for the older children
with a play gym and coin operated games. If you make it to the pub on the weekends the Australian Brewery and Hotel offers face painting and pizza making on Sunday night.

Another option that is a must visit is the Ettamogah Hotel. This pub centres on the community and
families making their establishment a place that can be enjoyed by all 7 days a week. The highlights include an arcade room, play gym, which they boast is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, jumping castle and rock climbing. Children weighing more than 15 kgs can give the rock climbing a go and learn how to climb and rappel down the wall with help from fully trained and qualified staff for only $5.00 a session.

So what do you think?  Have you been to Sydney and found other ways to strike that balance?  Tell us about it in the comments below!

Today let's talk about five of the most fantastic and beautiful railway routes that can be found around the globe. Of course there are far more than these 5 listed but these are the ones I'm most interested in doing and well, they look amazing!  In many cases the train is not the fastest way to get from 1 spot to another but sometimes its not about that, sometimes its about the experience inside the journey and that's where train travel really has an edge.

Here are 5 of the most incredible railway routes on earth:

Two days of typical Canadian beauty

It is said that the easiest and the best way to see the real beauty of Canada is while looking out of the train windows. Especially through a perfect Rocky Mountaineer route’s window!

This railway is connecting two extremely important cities - Vancouver and Banff and the journey from once city to another will take your breath away for sure.

During the trip, you will see all the typical elements of the local landscape: gigantic pine forests, snow-covered mountains, clear lakes and black lava cliffs. To take this journey of almost a thousand kilometers takes about two days.  During the night passengers stay in a hotel in the city of Kamloops, that way you don't miss scenery that would be darkened in the dead of night.

Seven time zones in one sitting

The amazing 9,289 kilometer long TransSiberian train route is famous not only for the fact that it is the longest railway line in the world but also because it helps to see Russia in an entirely different light.

Connecting hundreds of local towns and villages, this route crosses seven time zones, so traveling this way might take a while, but it really is worth it. With it, you will be able to see a lot of real Russian nature and local people’s lives in a way that you could not do with any other type of travel.

You can travel from Moscow to Vladivostok, which is near the Japanese Sea, but I would not end the route there. You can continue going along this line and soon you will quickly reach Beijing, Shanghai or Tokyo.  So you see this route can be done in pieces or you can spend months traveling it all at the same time.  I like a route that gives you loads of options like this one does!

In winter, the number of passengers decreases significantly, but the cold season can actually be an excellent opportunity to enjoy the snow-covered scenery and you can usually get quite a discount when traveling off season!

Railway on cloud

Although Jalpaiguri-Darjeeling rail line might seem like not such a big deal - it is. The route of this train goes up to around 2 kilometers height, so that is pretty extraordinary in itself not to mention all the beautiful scenery that comes with traveling to such heights.

The preserved steam engine of this train was actually added to the UNESCO World Heritage list, so that also speaks a lot for itself.  Probably the most surprising thing you can experience if you decide to take this train, is the fact that here you can enjoy beautiful views too.

Through the train seat, you will see clouds lower than your eye line, tea plantations and mountain villages, which all look fantastic and  magical.

Riding through market stalls

Taking Thai Maeklongo rail will literally make you hold your breath, but no thanks to the picturesque panoramas. This train crosses one of the biggest seafood markets in Thailand. And not just simply passes around. It literary crosses it.

Here local workers have become accustomed to the arrival of the locomotive and probably know the schedule of the train sometimes better than the railroad workers. Hearing the train coming, locals simply move away all stalls and various goods arranged on the ground. And soon after the train leaves – market comes back alive, and all stalls get into their places once again, until the next train comes.

Transportation and entertainment at the same time

The train named “the Ghan” rolls for nearly 3 thousand kilometers and really shows off what Australia is all about. The train route begins in the south coast port located in Adelaide and ends in Darwin in the north of Australia.

Contrasts will inevitably accompany the journey by this train - reddish deserts are changed with a clear blue sky. But that is not everything that this route can offer you.

With this train, you can not only travel from point A to B but also stop by and participate in trips within the country's most spectacular locations. So - it is a real full package for all adventurous travelers.  The price is quite steep but when you consider the entertainment value as well as the experience of it all I think you'll find it worth the money. And just think you can relax in a comfy seat and let someone else do all the driving

The circular crater of this volcano in Kenya has fascinated many geologists and tourists, although only a few are patient enough to have it visited because it is difficult to access. As well as the spectacular landscape, a trip to Nabiyotum also offers the opportunity to see a variety of birds, buffaloes, zebras and giraffes.

The East offers many spots for a family to escape the rat race of life.  Most people head to Thailand or maybe some head to China, but here we discuss a few less on the radar spots for a family to enjoy in the East.

Sri Lanka

The beautiful country of Sri Lanka may not be as popular as Germany or Greece for vacations,
however it offers some of the most wonderful and cultural experiences in the world for family
trips. For one, the Bundala National Park is home to a plethora of glistening lagoons, shiny sand
dunes, and over 200 different species of exotic wildlife native to the area. For a more historic
and educational activity, visit Polonnaruwa to see archaeological sites of a marketplace that was
thriving over 800 years ago. Here, you’ll see a little bit of everything from ancient tombs, to
statues, and even a wild elephant park that is right nearby.

East Coast of Australia

The East Coast of Australia has so much to offer families on vacations, that it can be extremely
hard to choose which activities to do. Sydney is such a huge city on its own, and with landmarks
such as the Opera House and The Rocks down town center it could be very easy to fill up a day
just there. Another great place for everyone to enjoy is the Featherdale Wildlife Park just north
of Sydney proper, and this is where visitors can feed the kangaroos, pet a koala, and view a lot
of Australia’s other natural inhabitants. In addition to that, a drive down the Gold Coast towards
Brisbane in your very own Australian campervan is another fun thing to do on the East Coast.

Road Trip on North Island of New Zealand

New Zealand is one of the most rural and majestic places on Earth, which is why it was the
perfect filming location for the popular “Lord of the Ring” movies. The best way to see all of this
natural beauty with your family is to arrive in Auckland and drive south to visit such places like
the mud pools in Rotorua and Te Urewera National Park for some outdoor fun and exploration.
Take some time to go on a hike through the lush backdrop or rent a boat for a day on the lake to
fully appreciate the wild pristine environment.

Golden Triangle in India

A family trip to India’s Golden Triangle area will take at least 7 or 8 days to complete as it covers
the cities of Dehli, Agra, and Jaipur. While in Agra, of course you will have to visit the Taj Mahal
as it is one of the most recognized buildings in the world. The 1000 km circuit for the Golden
Triangle is on the same road and is very well traveled now, so it will be easy to redirect yourself
if you happen to get lost. Although keep in mind that each leg of the three sections take about
four to six hours of travel time, but in any case it makes for a wonderful Indian adventure. If you
fancy doing it in style, this tour operator offers luxury trips which look pretty tasty!

Just remember if you want to work during your stay in India, you’ll have to visit pancardseva.co.in and get yourself a Pan Card

Tagaytay in the Philippines

Tagaytay is one of the favorite tourist spots for visitors, as they city is right on glorious Taal
Lake and the temperatures are much cooler compared to other parts of the country. It is well
worth it to spend a couple days in the area along the waterside, and take a boat across to the
Taal Volcano Island where you can walk or ride a horse up to the top of the volcano itself. This
is one of the best places to relax and see some of Asia’s most beautiful scenery.

Have you visited any of these spots with your family?  Which ones were your favorites and why?  Tell us about it in the comment section below!

We were only able to spend a very limited time in Australia.  It is such a beautiful and intriguing country that it only left us wanting more.  All the hopes I had for our Sydney area trip were realized and surpassed leaving us with a huge bucket list of locations to see when we return.

One of our goals is to take a full year camping around the entire country.  It's a lofty and expensive goal but one that I research often none the less.  As I was researching this option however I came across the time saving option of cruising.  It is also expensive, by our standards, but it can be a great way to see loads of the country while at the same time saving all that in between transit time that a road trip would eat up.

There are loads and loads of options that you can discover with OzCruising, but these 5 Australian cruises are the best ones to add to any bucket list, in my humble opinion anyway.

Tasmania and Adelaide
Where it goes: Most of the cruises start in Sydney, which is quite convenient since in my experience flights in and out of Australia are cheapest and offer the most frequency going into Sydney.  This cruise starts there, heads over to Tasmania and also ports in Adelaide and Melbourne before stopping on the other side of Tasmania as it returns to Sydney.

Why I love it: Tasmania is very high already on my list of Australian spots to visit.  Since it is an island you already need to either take a boat or fly to get there, this cruise porting in 2 locations saves loads of time and probably a fair bit of money.  It is a nature lovers paradise!

In Melbourne you can discover and enjoy the 12 apostles on the great ocean rd, see wild penguins on Phillip island, shop the queens markets, and enjoy the city life.

In and around Adelaide you will want to visit Kangaroo Island, enjoy the city's charming blend of old and new, and relax on one of their famed beaches

Queensland
Where it goes: Again this cruise originates in Sydney, then heads towards Cairns stopping along the way in Newcastle, and the famous Whitsunday islands.

Why I love it: The easiest answer is all things ocean, which happens to be where most of my family feels most at peace!  This cruise will take you through some of the most beautiful spots on the planet, most of them water related.  Cairns is where the Great Barrier Reef is so you can enjoy stunning underwater scenery, whether you dive or snorkel, on the worlds largest living reef.

The Whitsunday islands offer perhaps the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, in photos of course, but wow.  I mean just look at that photo!! It is also an expensive spot to visit from land and one many people pass over.  This cruise assures you will get to see the best ocean life Australia has to offer!

Moreton Island
Where it goes: Once more this cruise will start you out in Sydney and head directly to Moreton island and back.  It is a relatively short cruise at just 4 days so may be a good intro if you are new to Oz or cruising in general.

Why I love it: Moreton Island was never on any of my must see lists for Australia, it seems to get passed over for some of the bigger sites but I can assure you this is a gem of a spot and one you should consider strongly.  The island is located in Brisbane and is the 3rd largest sand island in the world.  Here you will be able to relax on one of the islands many beautiful beaches, dive among mysterious wrecks, hand feed wild dolphins or swim in one of the crystal clear lakes or lagoons.

Freemantle (Perth)
Where it goes: Originating in Sydney harbor, this cruise has many variations on spots to stop such as Melbourne and Adelaide but ends up in Perth.

Why I love it: Personally I have a huge interest in Perth as a lot of friends hail from the area and from what I have heard and observed through various blogs, it seems to be a wonderful child friendly city as well as a great jumping off point for wine country as well as Ningaloo, where you can swim with whale sharks amongst other amazing aquatic life.

Around Australia
Where it goes: A better title would be where doesn't it go?  This cruise is the all in one cruise that offers you nearly the whole of Australia.  It starts in Sydney and circumnavigates the entire continent making stops in all the most highly desired ports; Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle, Darwin, Cairns, and Brisbane, with a few other stops along the way.  Some of the cruises even include Bali and/or New Zealand in the route on the way back to the starting port of Sydney.

Why I love it: Easy, you get to see not only the best Australia has to offer but nearly all of it.  I had no idea this was even an option before but at the end of this article I am realizing that a cruise may be an even better route to go than a road trip.  This particular cruise will take you to all the biggest cities, all the most beautiful beaches, and give you a really good sampling of Australia from a view most never have!

That's it, we are cruisng it!  How about you?  Had you ever considered a cruise as a means to explore the land down under?
